Summary of The Hunger Games PDF

The rich Capitol in the country of Panem, which was founded in the ruins of North America after an undefined apocalyptic event, takes use of the labour and natural resources of the twelve neighbouring districts.

While the Capitol is located west of the Rocky Mountains, District 12 is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly Appalachia.

One boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each of the 12 remaining districts are chosen by lottery every year to compete in the Hunger Games pdf,

a competition in which the “tributes” must fight to the death in an outdoor arena until only one remains as punishment for a previous unsuccessful rebellion against the Capitol that resulted in the eradication of District 13.

The narrative is provided by District 12 resident and 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who volunteered to compete in the 74th Hunger Games pdf in place of her 12-year-old sister, Primrose.

Peeta Mellark, a former classmate of Katniss’s who once handed her bread from his family’s bakery when her family was in need, is the male tribute.

In the days before the Capitol Hunger Games pdf, they receive advice from their inebriated mentor Haymitch Abernathy, the only District 12 Hunger Games pdf victor still alive,

their chaperone Effie Trinket, and various stylists on how to improve their public image in order to attract sponsors who could send them potentially life-saving gifts during the Games.

When Katniss and Peeta are revealed to the audience, Cinna, Katniss’s stylist, dresses them in distinctive outfits that set them apart from the tributes.

Katniss acquires the moniker “Girl on Fire” as a result of her fire-themed outfit. Katniss unexpectedly receives the highest rating among the group when the Gamemakers evaluate them.

Rue, a diminutive tribute from District 11 who is 12 years old, accompanies Katniss and Peeta around while they are in training.

Peeta confesses his long-hidden love for Katniss in the televised interview with Caesar Flickerman the day before the games;

at first she is stunned and thinks it’s a ruse to get sponsors, but she later accepts it as genuine. Then Haymitch advertises them as “star-crossed lovers.”

The Games begin, and nearly half the tributes are slaughtered in the bloodbath at the start, battling over the weapons and supplies throughout the arena.

Katniss nearly perishes when she ignores Haymitch’s previous counsel to depart right away, but she uses her well-honed hunting and survival abilities to hide in the woods.

After a few days, an artificial fire drives Katniss toward the others. The “Career tributes” from Districts 1, 2, and 4 as well as Peeta,

who appears to have sided with them, notice her and tree her. Rue, hiding in a nearby tree, silently alerts Katniss to a “tracker jacker” nest.

When Katniss destroys the nest, flying insects are released. These insects are genetically designed to track anyone who destroys their nest and carry poison that attacks the fear centre of their victims’ minds.

One of the Careers is killed by their venom, and the others are driven away, but Katniss gets stung and starts having hallucinations.

When Peeta returns, he instructs her to leave rather than killing her.

Later, after joining forces with Rue, Katniss destroys the careers’ supplies as Rue is fatally wounded by the male tribute from District 1 in front of Katniss.

Rue’s killer is taken out by an arrow, and Katniss follows Rue as she passes away. She covers Rue’s body with flowers to display her contempt toward the Capitol.

In appreciation, Rue’s district sends Katniss a loaf of bread.

A rule modification is announced, allowing the tributes from the same district to win as a pair.

Peeta is hiding in a riverbank after being hurt by one of the Careers, Cato, when Katniss discovers him there.

Peeta later stated that he joined up with the Careers to protect Katniss. Peeta is being cared for as best as she can, but he is still seriously hurt.

In an effort to entice sponsors to give her presents, Katniss plays the part of being madly in love with Peeta.

When the Gamemakers provide the supplies that each participant most urgently needs, Katniss takes a life-threatening risk to get Peeta’s medication.

Clove, a Career Tribute who revels in Rue’s passing and tries to kill Katniss, intercepts her but is slain by Thresh,

a male District 11 tribute who spares Katniss out of respect for Rue. Peeta’s life is saved by the medicine.

The Gamemakers remove the rule change after Katniss and Peeta are the only two survivors, forcing one of them to kill the other for a suspenseful conclusion.

Katniss is preparing to eat Peeta’s fatal “nightlock” berries in defiance. The Gamemakers name Katniss and Peeta the winners after realising that they want to die so that the games won’t have a winner.

Despite the fact that they are welcomed as heroes as a couple, Haymitch warns Katniss that the Capitol might punish her for her disobedience.

Peeta is devastated to discover that Katniss’s acts were a part of a planned ruse to win sympathy while travelling back to District 12. But Katniss is unsure of both her own emotions and her destiny.
